A couple of my own wild thoughts on the current box office standings

Moonfall (2022) Centropolis Entertainment

Recent post-covid box office analysis is fascinating.

Spiderman: No Way Home — $1.8billion world wide. Franchise love extend over 20 years, converted into a healthy revenue split for Marvel & Sony… Holland, Garfield, Maguire a trio of perfect leads.

so Uncharted (a Sony picture) despite shit reviews was guaranteed good follow on. Holland is hot property & the game franchise is beloved. For me, it met expectation, but I had hoped for it to exceed — a definite green light of a sequel will help reach this.

Death on the Nile a follow on from a worthy Murder on the Orient Express seems to be tracking for a profit margin with $76m worldwide after 10 days of release on a $90–100m budget — but a guess that a third-quel may skip cinemas and be a Disney+ release.

Moonfall continues to flop hard — good but really stupid popcorn movie — though probably a major problem, one of its lead characters is a conspiracy theorist proven right. That doesn’t bode well with current worldly sentiment where the discourse enemy is false information drawn from scientific conspiracy. At a $150m budget, this was possibly the wrong movie to invest in, if not now, but ever.

Dog surprises with strong numbers but if Channing Tatum and an adorable Dog in an original non-franchise story together doesn’t equal good numbers the world is truely broken.
